“Grounded in solid natural and social
science and driven
by a full and diverse
spectrum of stakeholders, we trust that MOP will uniquely serve as a credible
broker among users competing for access
to, use or conservation
of our finite coastal resources. In the end, MOP and the reasoned, deliberate debate and
decision making it fosters, has great
potential to relieve the regulatory burden
on small water‐dependent businesses
while simultaneously fostering increased marine environmental stewardship.”

- Leona Roach, Principal, Marine Consulting Services

Public Input

The general public can make suggestions and comment on the ocean management planning process in many ways including:

1. Attending any of the 18 Public-Input Listening Sessions being held throughout the state from September 18 through October, 2008

2. Submitting comments online now via the Massachusetts Ocean Plan – Public Input Portal, or by

3. Mailing your comments to:

Massachusetts Ocean Plan
Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs
100 Cambridge, 9th Floor
Boston, MA 02114

4. The EEA (with technical support from MOP) is hosting five regional Public Hearings in September of 2009.

Stakeholder Input

The EEA gathered extensive stakeholder input through a set of one-on-one interviews with over 50 stakeholder groups from October, 2008 through January, 2009.  A Final Report on Stakeholder Participation in Massachusetts Ocean Management Planning was produced in July, 2009 (Massachusetts Ocean Partnership members receive such reports automatically).

Another effective way for organized stakeholder groups (including: recreational/commercial fishers, the marine trades, renewable energy organizations, etc.) to have meaningful input into the ocean-management planning process is by joining the Massachusetts Ocean Partnership.  We bring ocean-interest groups together to collaboratively solve problems, provide input and develop common sense ocean-management planning solutions (for example, please refer to the 07/29/09 MOP Partners’ Event).”

EEA Stakeholder Meetings were held in February, 2009 and OAC/Stakeholder Workshops were conducted in May, 2009.
